The Monarch Ultramarathon l.

by Erik Pragt

After a long reschedule of the Monarch Ultramarathon project I decided to complete my 50km distance in Mexico instead of Canada. We’ll be having an Instagram live on September 25th at 7:00am Mexico City. The project cause is to educate about the conservation of the Monarch Butterfly and its migration across Canada, United States and Mexico.

Also, I’ll be participating with Tarahumaras Fans Running for Planet, which is held on the 26th virtually. The event cause is to plant a tree for each runner who is registered.

And September 19th last night! I ran 10km while participating in the biggest massive running event in the Globe and received a Guinness World Record Certificate! This gives me a great ego boost and helps in overcoming all the obstacles to accomplish my goals as a free human being! Since it was a World Record I went to two spots for it and taking advantage of the virtuality I registered the one with the coolest views. First, I went to an Ecological Park at 8:00am in Cuernavaca. It has tons of water because if the summer and the trees there are named Ahuehuetes. In Náhuatl, it means old tree of water and it can live around 4,000 years. Their wood is used for boats, canoes and other things that are used in water. The thing with this park is that most of the route is made of concrete. When I found the clay track however, I was able to mixed it with the loop, which is about 1.3km. Around the 8km mark my knees started to be discomforted, so I changed my pace and I was able to complete the 10km.

Afterwards I met with some friends to visit Chacatzingo, an archeological site with pyramids and mountains. We climbed to the top, and there was a Mexican flag since it was Independence Day the 15th. The rainy seasons makes everything green and slippery but I always say if you don’t fall you didn’t climb enough!  This view is a huge base stone and going up needs a lot of strength. We saw a lot of waterfalls, smalls rivers, and lakes made by people. The most wonderful thing was finding a water seep coming out of the mountain, like a water fountain. I tasted it with my hand and then we grabbed our bottles and taste a little more. The water looked yellowish. As climbing up and down my joints were perfect. The muscles and the lactic acid were the ones making presence now! That’s the kind of pleasure that we want to feel to know that everything is going well!
