Another weekend, another run, and time to escape the city. Just a small drive out of Sydney, in the northern part of the Royal National Park (RNP), lies the Temptation Creek and Savilles trail. This trail is a mostly narrow, with rocky track with lots of gradients. This is perfect for mountain bikers and trail runners, both of which are frequent visitors of the trails.
The trail consists of a small section of forest, with lots of little tracks, and splits. And, on rainy days, a pretty active river. While it’s easy to lose the trail, it’s hard to get lost (though for sure we tried, as we always do). There are quite a few people out and about. Also, the signage will send you in the right direction in case you take a wrong turn.
On our day of running, the track had been flooded. So, instead of running on the trail, it felt more like running in small little creeks. While we tried to avoid these in the beginning, there really wasn’t a way to avoid them all. So, once your feet do get wet, why not just surrender to track and splash your way around? So we did, and it was great!
Small single-track routes brought us to scenic rivers, small elevations, and rock formations. This train contains basically everything you can expect from a great trail experience. The traffic on the route was moderate and easy to combine with the mountain bikers on the track. This small part of the Royal National Parks seems to be a hotspot for MTB.
All in all, this is a great track for beginners and intermediate runners who aren’t afraid to get dirty. Make sure you bring some clean clothes and a towel. Also check out our running checklist for even more tips to make your run as enjoyable as possible.
To make the run, or more specifically, the post-run even more pleasant, we recommend visiting 7th Heaven in Sutherland. Amazing food for both vegetarians and meat lovers, great vegan snacks, and amazing coffee, all served by the most friendly staff one can imagine. A bliss to have been here, and we’ll for sure be back for more run recoveries.

Happy running and see you soon on the trail!
