Running for the Planet

by Erik Pragt

Two weeks ago, Running for the Planet organized a global, socially distanced, running event. Running for the Planet is a small scale German organisation, focused on running. And while the Tarahumara team is running, Running for the Planet carry out social and environmental projects. This is similar to what we’re focusing on with Trail 43.

For running for Planet 2020, runners from 26 different countries participated including 3 from Australia. Currently, Trail 43 has 2 runners in Australia (and 1 in Mexico). A quick calculation learns that we were responsible for 66% of the the runners in Australia. Not bad ;-).

In total, there were 176 runners from Germany, 86 from Brazil, 17 from the USA, 9 from France, 7 from Mexico (Viva Mexico!), 4 from Spain, 3 from Australia (that’s us!) and many other countries in the world. People apart from each other but united for our planet can make things happen!

As a result from all these runners over the world, 333 in total, Running for the Planet planted an equivalent number of trees in Brazil. You can read more about the tree planting project named Nascente Viva on the Better Place project website.

You can find several photos of the event below. More photos can be found on Google drive.

Please save the date for September 19 in 2021 for the next Running for the Planet, 2021. Hopefully will can increase the number of Australian runners by a factor of 10 by then. We’re also confident that Trail 43 can contribute even more to an already successful campaign! Happy running!
